Art Poster

Each year for over three decades, the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission’s annual art poster has showcased a different, talented local artist. This tradition lives on in 2012. Poster donations help support the Commission’s mission and programs: fostering public participation, increasing access, and forging alliances in support of local arts, culture and history.

2012 Art Poster
This year’s poster features the painting, “Next of Kin” by Madison artist Jacob A Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer tells the story of the painting: “I created this painting after learning that my wife was expecting our second child. The 3 pumpkins represent my wife, my daughter and myself…The “Next of Kin” turned out to be my son, Judah Don Pfeiffer! The pumpkins were picked from Eugster’s Farm in Stoughton, WI.”

The evocative 2012 art poster (25” x 20”) features creative design by Lois Bergerson and production with financial support from Alliant Energy.

Artist Jacob A Pfeiffer

Jacob A. Pfeiffer is a young artist who hails from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1996 with highest honors. Pfeiffer's technique is impeccable, precise, and uncannily accurate. His latest work consists of tightly rendered still lifes containing a wide variety of objects. Purposefully provocative compositions are constructed with meticulous and time consuming craftsmanship. A rich and deeply saturated palette is used to depict a myriad of complex textures. Pfeiffer designs his spaces with a deceptive simplicity that resonates with a sense of volume, drama, power and above all, humor. The resulting work has found a wide array of admiring collectors and has also garnered the attention of the art press, being featured in American Arts Quarterly, Art News, The Artist’s Magazine and gracing the covers of American Artist, Southwest Art and American Art Collector. His inclusion in several high profile museum shows attests to the status of this successful young artist. Jacob lives in Madison, WI with his wife and two children.
